Some of the ways the Reading Program is different include:

• 32 Step by Step Reading Blocks breaks down everything the learner needs to know about learning to read into 32 bite size chunks of information. When one block is mastered, move to the next. Each block builds on what was mastered in the previous block/s.
• Checkpoint Assessments – these are mini reading assessments that occur after every 5-7 blocks. The assessment assures you that the learner has mastered the previous blocks before moving on and adding more information. Other programs do not offer a continuous check up on the way and consequently the learning has gaps in their knowledge which affects their reading abilities.
• Decodable Readers – every block has its own decodable reader based on the skills learned in that particular block as well as any previously learned block. The reader is never confronted with impossible to read words for his/her current skill level. You never have to look for a book that’s at the correct level for the reader. All of that has been taken care of for you! You just cut out the mini books and staple them together and use them for your reading practice. How long does it take to teach someone how to read?

Everyone is an individual learner so I can’t put a time on how long this will take. Some learners will go through several blocks in a couple of days and others will take a week or two with only 1 block. It really depends on how the child/adult learns and how to address the learning challenges or differences that might be present. Do not worry about how long it takes. Just be conscious that all the material in each block is sufficiently learned before moving forward to the next block. This will give the learning a solid foundation and strong reading skills for the future.

Is the Reading Blocks reading program suitable for teaching someone with dyslexia?

Yes! The multi-sensory methods, step by step learning style and repeated ongoing practice for all the material is perfect for anyone with dyslexia or other learning differences. Since each learner is unique, take as much time as that particular learner needs in each block before moving on to the next block.
